PARIS -- Voters were 3) turning out Sunday in solid numbers for 4)the first round of France's presidential election, with conservative President Nicolas Sarkozy's political career on the line amid frustration over his personal style and inability to turn around a stagnant French economy.

大意：法國的第一輪總統選舉在週日開展。薩科齊的政治生涯懸在人民對於他個人風格的失望與無法逆轉法國經濟僵局中。

Sunday's balloting will 5)trim down a list of 10 6)candidates from across the political 7)spectrum to two finalists for a decisive May 6 8)runoff, which will set a 9) course for the next five years in this 10) pillar of the European Union.

週日的選舉會從法國的政治光譜裡刷掉十位候選人，留下兩位於五月六號決戰。屆時結果將牽動歐盟未來五年的走向[因為法國總統已修訂為五年任期]。
